Average Charging Cost: Based on national averages, let’s consider an average cost of $0.25 per kWh.

10. Why Did EVgo Charge Me $20, $30, $40, or $50?

This initial hold on funds ensures the driver has sufficient funds to cover the charging session. Analogous to pre-authorizations at gas pumps, this process is intended to guarantee payment and prevent the user from spending the earmarked amount elsewhere.

Regardless of the cause, submit a request to the EVgo Charging Crew for review within 30 days of the transaction date.

11. Is EVgo Faster Than Tesla Supercharger?

EVgo is way slower than Tesla Supercharger. EVgo stations can charge at up to 90 miles per hour, while Tesla chargers can add up to stations can add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

12. Can I Use EVgo Without App?

Yes, you can use EVgo without app. If you don’t have the EVgo app, all you need it a credit card. Just choose the right plug on the charger screen, connect it to your EV, and use the credit card reader on the charger to start your session.

EVgo is promoting their app heavily. As a result, most EVgo users use their app to pay for their charging sessions. However, there are ways to pay for your charging at EVgo even if you don’t want to download the app.

1. Credit card: Just pick the correct plug on the charger screen, put it in your EV, and use the credit card reader on the charger to start your session. If you prefer, you can also use Apple Pay at some stations. After connecting your EV, hold your iPhone or Apple Watch to the credit card reader until you see “Done” and a checkmark on your device screen. Please note that not all chargign stations offer a credit card reader. If you arrive at a charger without a credit card reader, you can use one of the other ways to pay for your session by quickly creating an EVgo account in the EVgo app.

2. EVgo program card: You can use the EVgo program card, also called an RFID card to start charging. Just make sure to activate it first! Once you’ve signed up for an EVgo account using the EVgo website (or app), they’ll send you a physical EVgo program card. Just tap this card at any EVgo charger to start and pay for your charging, and the charges will be automatically billed to your account.

There’s also another way that doesn’t require the app to charge your vehicle, but requires the app to configure. If your car can join Autocharge+, you can pay for charging automatically. With Autocharge+, no need for an app or program card—just plug in and power up. You can easily sign up for Autocharge+ using the EVgo app. The great part is, many cars that work with CCS (including Teslas with a CCS Combo 1 Adapter) can join.

13. Can 2 Cars Charge on EVgo?

Yes, 2 chargers can simultaneously charge at the same charger. When one connector is in use, the EV gets full power; when both are in use, the power is shared.

Unlike traditional chargers, simultaneous charging allows one dispenser to serve two EV stalls, enabling two drivers to plug in at the same charger. This advancement maximizes charging options, reduces equipment requirements, and increases EV charging density.

This means a 350kW charger, for instance, can provide up to 350kW if one vehicle uses it. In a shared session, with both connectors occupied, each vehicle still has access to a substantial 175kW.

EVgo focuses on simultaneous charging to efficiently serve more vehicles, anticipating future EVs with faster charging capabilities.

Simultaneous charging is identified by a message on the charger screen or a double arrow symbol in the EVgo app, offering users a seamless and future-ready charging experience.

14. Can I Use EVgo Without a Card?

Yes, you can use EVgo without any card. For that purpose, you can use EVgo app, start charging remotely by calling customer support, or by utilizing Autocharge+ feature.

EVgo app: Download the EVgo app, and answer a few questions to create your account. Once your account is set up with a payment method, use the app to find the closest EVgo station. Plug in the right connector for your EV, and tap in the app to start your charge.

Remote start: If you EVgo program card, but you didn’t take it, you can always call customer support at 877-494-3833 for a remote start. Alternatively, you can also start a charge using the EVgo mobile app.

Autocharge+: If your car can use Autocharge+, you can pay for charging automatically. With Autocharge+, you don’t need an app or a program card – just plug in and start charging. You can easily sign up for Autocharge+ using the EVgo app. The great news is that most cars compatible with CCS can join, including Tesla drivers with a CCS Combo 1 Adapter.

In order to reserve an EVgo charger, see the locations that offer reservations on the EVgo app. Next, click “reserve now”, and arrive at your chosen time and initiate a charge using the EVgo app. The charger will be reserved for a 20-minute window from the time you confirm.

Not all EVgo charging stations offer reservation feature. Therefore, you need to find the location on the app first.

The charger will be set aside for you for 20 minutes once you confirm. This usually gives you plenty of time to get to the station and makes sure nobody else uses it while you’re on your way!

If you select Reserve Future Date, you’ll have the option to reserve some chargers up to 2 weeks in advance.
